Everybody Loves Opal

“Everybody Loves Opal,” opens at the Hardeman County Arts Center,  1580 W. Market Street, Bolivar,  February 24-25, @ 7 p.m. and February 26,  @ 2 p.m.   

The play, written by John Patrick, directed by Monita Carlin and Ann-Claire Simpson, is best known for being, “shamelessly entertaining,” “loads of laughs with a cheerful philosophy”, “chockfull of nutty laughs,” and “goofy and enjoyable.”

Opal Kronkie (Wendy Siler),  a middle-aged recluse,  lives in a tumbledown mansion at the edge of the municipal dump.  Opal collects things—anything that can be toted home in her little red wagon.  She is an optimist, for no matter how mean her lot, or her friends, Opal responds with unfailing kindness and an abiding faith in the goodness of human nature.

Three cons intrude on Opal’s charmed life at the dump, Solomon (Travis Wisely), Bradford (Jeff Shackelford), and Gloria (Lisa Nuckolls).  They finagle their way into sharing her house.  Their initial goal is to use Opal’s hovel as a hideout and exploit her collection of empty bottles to distribute their bootleg perfume.  Later on, the con artists device a better plan-- to insure Opal for plenty of money and a rapid demise!

Other cast members include Roy Brown (Police Officer) and Marvin White (Doctor).

Tickets are $10 and go on sale to members first starting February 13, 2012
